This Colloquium celebrates the opening of the Franco-Uruguayan Institute of Mathematics (IFUM), which is an International Associate Laboratory (LIA) of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).

It will take place between the 8th and the 11th December 2009, and invited speakers will deliver plenary lectures as well as lectures in thematic special sessions. An official inauguration of the IFUM will also take place, in presence of academic, political and diplomatic authorities.

The agreement by which the IFUM is created has the Universidad de la República and the Programme for the Development of Basic Science (PEDECIBA) as its Uruguayan counterparts, and the École Normale Supérieure de Paris (rue d'Ulm), the University of Montpellier 2 and the Mathematics Institute of Toulouse - which groups the academic intitutions of the universities of Toulouse - on the French side. Activities of the IFUM rely on financial support from CNRS and PEDECIBA.
